I’ve been lucky enough to visit Prague twice in my life.

The first visit barely qualifies as such since I was only there for a few hours, but the second one gave me ample time to revisit my favorite places and discover new ones. Prague is an extremely photogenic city, and although it is getting increasingly more touristy, it retains an magnetizing atmosphere that simply won’t let me stay away for too long.

Things To Do in Prague – Architecture

One of the things I love most about the city is the incredible amount of details. Vastly different from the classical facades of Paris or the white-washed stone houses of southern Italy, the architecture in Prague is intricate, ornate, and simply quite stunning, especially with its stuck-in-time, retro feel.

Things To Do in Prague – Old City Hall Tower

I really, really recommend going up the Old Town Hall tower in Staroměstské náměstí (also known to commoners as Old Town Square). At 5 euros per person, it’s a very cheap and easy activity – elevator, yay! – and it offers gorgeous panoramic views of all of Prague. From there you can perfectly see the castle, the Charles Bridge, the colorful facades, the Vltava river and the St. Nicolas Church.

Things To Do in Prague – Prague Castle

Dominating the skyline of Prague’s left bank, Prague Castle is, according to the Guinness World Records, the largest ancient castle in the world at 570 metres long and an average of 128 metres wide. Seat of Czech monarchs and the head of state since the 9th century, it houses somes of the most precious artwork in the country, including the Czech crown jewels. From the Kings of Bohemia to presidents of Czechoslovakia, everyone who is someone in Czech history has, at some point or another, walked in these endless corridors, perhaps in the midst of arranging a wedding with one of Europe’s notable royal families, or even plotting the demise of their leader. Things To Do in Prague – Vltava River

Not as famous as the Thames or the Seine but nonetheless quite stunning, the Vltava River crosses not only Prague but almost half the country; it is, therefore, the longest river within the Czech Republic. Its manicured banks offers splendid lookouts of the Czech capital and make for a tranquil and scenic place to grab a pint, have a picnic, or a romantic hand-in-hand walk.
